Answer. $30$
- Numerator $= 24$.
- $24 \div 0.8 = 30$.
-
Answer. $95$
- $\sqrt{196} = 14$ and $3^{4} = 81$.
- $14 + 81 = 95$.
-
Answer. $15.625$
- $2.5^{2} = 6.25$.
- $6.25 \times 2.5 = 15.625$.
-
Answer. £$10.80$
- $10\% = 8.64$ and $2.5\% = 2.16$.
- $8.64 + 2.16 = 10.80$.
-
Answer. $1.6 \times 10^{3}$
- $6.4 \times 2.5 = 16$.
- $10^{5} \times 10^{-3} = 10^{2}$, so $16 \times 10^{2} = 1.6 \times 10^{3}$.
-
Answer. £$12.3\dot{3}$, which is £$12.33$ to the nearest penny
- $74 \div 6 = 12.333\ldots$
- The digit after the pennies is $3$, so it stays £$12.33$.
-
Answer. $763$ cm$^{3}$
- $V = \pi r^{2} h = \pi \times 4.5^{2} \times 12$.
- $4.5^{2} \times 12 = 243$.
- $243\pi = 763.4\ldots$, which is $763$ cm$^{3}$ to $3$ s.f.
-
Answer. $13.\dot{3}$, which is $13.3$ to $3$ s.f.
- $5.6^{2} + 4.2^{2} = 49$, so the square root is $7$.
- Denominator $= 0.525$.
- $7 \div 0.525 = 13.333\ldots$
- To $3$ s.f. the answer is $13.3$.
